Beautiful cup. So much movement.

what color is oribe supposed to be anyway? I like your carved cups. I am going to have to try that on the next set of things that I make in clay.

Green.
Have you ever done wood-fires? If you have, then you are probably familiar with the green drips the wood ash leaves on the pots. *That*, is the source of Oribe.

...or at least that's what I vaguely remember hearing in university...

You should totally try carving!!! I bet you would do some AWESOME work. It's a lot of fun to just get in the "zone", and let your hands do the work, and seeing what you come up with. I would also be interested to see how it will be contrasted with your sculptural work.

I have sprinkled ash on my work for a cone 10 firing. I want to build a small wood kiln in my back yard (we live in the countryside and my back yard is the size of a soccer field). I have not yet done a wood firing, but I very much want to! I plan to do one at a workshop at some point.

I am not interested at all in carving -- I dont know why. I like sculpting in clay, because you add to the shape -- and of course, you do remove some also -- but I just don't "feel" it in my heart to do carving. I am too into clay right now, I guess.

I mean, I have carved designs on greenware, but that's about it. That was fun.

thanks for the comment and the favorite ^___^

I did actually make a few more carved cups and dishes. I've just been too lazy to photograph/upload them on to dA >_<

oribe is pretty indeed, though I can honestly say that I've seen prettier than this one. you could do recipe research and mix some~

your welcome =)

trust me, I would love to mix glazes at some point in the future. Love to. My teacher's glazes can be good, but sometimes limiting. Someday, I'll make my own~

I really like the carved designs, looks like that took a while to make. How large are the cups?

It's actually just one cup, the photo shows different views of it. Not very big, just 10cm tall maybe. I prefer bigger cups, but this was one of the first things I made, throwing on the wheel for the first time in more than 2 years. The carving does take a long time, but I enjoy it^^ Thanks for the comment!
